Steel Socket Welding Tee Introduction
A socket weld tee is a forged pipe fitting with three openings arranged at 90° angles, allowing fluid or gas to transfer along a vertical branch. Its defining feature is the machined countersunk holes (“sleeves”) at all three ends. During installation, the pipe is inserted into these sockets, leaving a noticeable 1/16-inch gap between the pipe end and the socket shoulder to accommodate thermal expansion. A fillet weld is then applied around the outer joint. Compared to threaded systems, this construction offers superior alignment accuracy and joint reliability while avoiding the full-penetration welding complexities of butt weld tees. They are designed for medium- to high-pressure systems (rated to ASME B16.11 classes 3000 to 9000) in petrochemical, hydraulic, power generation, and marine applications where vibration resistance and leak prevention are not negotiable.

S32760 Introduction

Stainless steel grade F55 has excellent corrosion resistance to a wide range of areas, especially resistance to pitting and
crevice corrosion in seawater and other chloride containing environments, with critical pitting temperature that is more than 50°C
(122°F). This material is known to also have high strength and extended lifecycle. It is 10% lighter than grade 316 steel, ideal
for sub-zero service, and more cost effective than nickel alloys. Stainless steel grade F55 can be easily machined and welded. The
following datasheet provides an overview of stainless steel grade F55.
