Product processing
Hex bolts and nuts are manufactured primarily through cold forming (or heading) for high efficiency and precision, or hot forging for larger sizes. The process involves shaping metal wire or rod, threading, heat treatment for strength, and surface coating for corrosion resistance
Manufacturing Process for Hex Bolts (Cold Heading)
1. Wire Drawing & Heading: Coiled steel wire is drawn to the correct diameter and fed into a cold header. The wire is cut, then subjected to high-pressure punches to form the shank and the hexagonal head shape.
2. Trimming: The forged head is trimmed to achieve the final precise hexagonal shape.
3. Thread Rolling: Threads are formed by passing the bolt blank through flat or cylindrical dies, which roll the threads rather than cutting them. This process makes the thread stronger.
4. Heat Treatment: The bolts are heated in a furnace and then quenched and tempered to enhance hardness and strength (e.g., Grade 8.8 or 10.9).
5. Finishing: Bolts are cleaned (pickling) and coated with finishes such as zinc plating or hot-dip galvanizing to provide corrosion resistance.
