Product processing
Hexagon socket cap screws are manufactured primarily through cold forging, a high-speed process involving cold heading, hex punch forming, and thread rolling. The process ensures high strength (e.g., 12.9 class) by shaping the metal rather than cutting it. Finishing involves hardening, quenching, and often black oxide coating
Manufacturing Steps (Cold Forming Method)
1. Wire Drawing & Feeding: Raw material steel wire is fed into a bolt forming machine.
2. Cold Heading (Forging): The wire is sheared to length and forged into the bolt blank shape, creating the cylindrical head and shank.
3. Hex Socket Forming: A hardened hexagonal pin (puncher) hits the head in the final die station to create the socket recess.
4. Thread Rolling: The shank is passed between flat or cylindrical dies to roll the threads, which provides higher strength than cutting threads.
5. Heat Treatment: The screws are heated to harden the material and then quenched for durability, ensuring they meet strength classes like 8.8, 10.9, or 12.9.
6. Surface Treatment: Common coatings include black oxide (for corrosion resistance), zinc plating, or rust-resistant coatings.
