F55 Introduction
Stainless steel grade F55 has excellent corrosion resistance to a wide range of areas, especially resistance to pitting and
crevice corrosion in seawater and other chloride containing environments, with critical pitting temperature that is more than 50°C
(122°F). This material is known to also have high strength and extended lifecycle. It is 10% lighter than grade 316 steel, ideal
for sub-zero service, and more cost effective than nickel alloys. Stainless steel grade F55 can be easily machined and welded. The
following datasheet provides an overview of stainless steel grade F55.
Lap Joint Stub End Introduction
A lap joint stub end, also known as a flanged short section or lap joint short section, is a key component in a lap joint flange system. It, along with the backing flange, forms a detachable connection. Its main characteristic is that the stub end (flared short neck) is welded to the end of the pipe, and the backing flange is fitted onto the stub end. This combination allows the backing flange to rotate freely on the pipe to align with bolt holes, making it ideal for piping systems that require frequent disassembly for inspection and maintenance.

Key Features and Functions *Easy Installation and Maintenance: The flange fits onto the short section and can be freely rotated to align the bolt holes, eliminating the need for precise pipe alignment before installation. This greatly simplifies the flange installation process. *Easy Disassembly: Because the flange can rotate, disassembling the pipeline for inspection or maintenance is much easier, eliminating the need for secondary welding or cutting as with weld neck flanges.
*Reduced Leakage Risk: This connection method effectively reduces the risk of leakage at the pipe connection while ensuring a tight seal.
*Reduced Stress:Since the short section is welded to the pipe, and the flange fits onto the short section, the flange does not bear the stress of the pipe during connection, minimizing its impact on the overall stress of the pipeline.
