S32760 Introduction
Stainless steel grade F55 has excellent corrosion resistance to a wide range of areas, especially resistance to pitting andcrevice corrosion in seawater and other chloride containing environments, with critical pitting temperature that is more than 50°C(122°F). This material is known to also have high strength and extended lifecycle. It is 10% lighter than grade 316 steel,ideal for sub-zero service, and more cost effective than nickel alloys. Stainless steel grade F55 can be easily machined and welded. The following datasheet provides an overview of stainless steel grade F55.
Threaded Flange Introduction
- Structural Features: The inner bore of the threaded flange is machined with pipe threads, which mate with a pipe with external threads to achieve a connection without welding. To ensure a seal, a gasket is usually placed between the flange and the pipe; the sealing surface can be flat or raised face.
- Working Principle:
The tight engagement of the threads forms a preliminary mechanical connection, resisting fluid pressure and vibration within the pipeline. Simultaneously, the sealing barrier formed by the compressed gasket prevents fluid leakage. Furthermore, the connection's stability can be enhanced by installing and tightening bolts.

Raw Material Selection & Inspection: Choose high-quality metal materials (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel) that meet industry standards. Conduct strict inspections for material composition, mechanical properties, and surface defects to ensure raw material qualification.
Quality Inspection:
Cutting & Blanking: Use cutting equipment (such as band saws or flame cutting machines) to cut the raw metal into blank pieces with specific dimensions, matching the size requirements of the target threaded flange.
Forging or Casting:
- Forging: Heat the blank to a suitable temperature, then use forging equipment (like hydraulic presses) to shape it into a rough flange form through processes like upsetting and extrusion, enhancing the material's density and mechanical strength.
- Casting: Pour molten metal into a prefabricated mold, wait for it to cool and solidify, and form the rough flange. This method is suitable for complex-shaped flanges but requires subsequent defect detection (e.g., ultrasonic testing).
Machining (Key Step):
- Lathe Machining: Use a lathe to process the rough flange's outer circle, end face, and sealing surface (e.g., flat face, raised face) to ensure precise dimensions and smooth surface finish.
- Thread Tapping: Use a thread tap or thread milling machine to process internal threads in the flange's inner hole, ensuring the thread specification (e.g., NPT, BSP) matches the design requirements and has good fit with the pipe thread.
Surface Treatment: Perform anti-corrosion treatment on the flange surface to improve its service life. Common methods include galvanizing (hot-dip galvanizing, electro-galvanizing), painting, or passivation (for stainless steel flanges).
Quality Inspection:
- Conduct dimensional inspection (using calipers, micrometers, thread gauges) to verify if the flange's outer diameter, inner hole, thread, and sealing surface meet design standards.
- Perform non-destructive testing (e.g., ultrasonictesting, magnetic particle testing) to check for internal or surface defects like cracks.
- Conduct pressure testing (if required) to ensure the flange's sealing performance under specified pressure without leakage.
Packaging & Storage:
Pack the qualified threaded flanges with protective materials (e.g., plastic films, wooden boxes) to prevent scratches or corrosion during transportation. Store them in a dry, well-ventilated warehouse to avoid moisture damage.
