UNS S20910 XM-19 Stainless Steel Introduction
UNS S20910 XM-19 stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel with a blend of strength and corrosion resistance that is higher than stainless steel grades 316, 316/316L, 317, and 317/317L .The high strength, corrosion resistance, and low
magneticpermeability of this alloy allows it to be used as a material for medical implants.
Machinability
Stainless steel grade UNS S20910 XM-19 has machinability characteristics that are similar to other austenitic stainless
steels;however it requires slower speeds, more power, and higher rigidity due to its high work hardening rate. It is recommended that coated carbide tooling be used.
Forming
Stainless steel grade UNS S20910 XM-19 can be formed using the same methods applied for other austenitic stainless steels. More power for forming and forging is needed for this alloy. Forging can be done at 1177-1204°C (2150-2200°F).
Welding
Welding of stainless steel grade UNS S20910 XM-19 can be performed using traditional joining processes. Recommended filler metal should be UNS S20910 XM-19 (AWS E/ER209).
Caution should be taken while using autogenous, high power density joining processes such as EB or laser welding, due to low FN potential and severe outgassing possibility.
Heat Treatment
Final annealing process performed for several of the applications, is done at 1065°C (1950°F), which is followed by water
quenching. In case this material is used in a strongly corrosive environment, annealing should be done at 1121°C (2050°F). This alloy cannot be hardened by heat treatment.

1. Raw Material Selection and Pre-treatment: High-quality raw materials meeting industry standards, such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and brass, are selected. Material testing and dimensional inspection are performed first. Surface oxide scale, oil stains, and impurities are removed, and defects such as cracks and porosity are checked to ensure the raw material quality meets standards, providing a guarantee for subsequent processing.2. Forging and Shaping: Precision die forging is used. The pre-treated raw materials are heated to the specified temperature and forged into core components such as the connector body, nut, and connector body using forging equipment. This ensures that each component has a dense structure and meets mechanical performance standards, satisfying subsequent thread processing and pressure requirements.3. Precision Thread Machining: The threads of each component are machined meticulously according to NPT, BSP, and G standard thread specifications. Thread accuracy, pitch, and surface finish are controlled to ensure a tight thread fit and smooth connection, avoiding potential loosening or leakage after assembly.4. Auxiliary Precision Machining: Auxiliary machining such as turning and grinding is performed on threaded parts and joint interfaces to remove burrs and smooth the fit of the joints. Sealing grooves are also machined to lay the foundation for improved sealing performance.5. Surface Treatment: Depending on the operating conditions and customer requirements, finished components undergo surface treatments such as galvanizing, pickling and passivation, and polishing to enhance corrosion resistance and rust prevention, extend service life, and improve the product's appearance.6. Assembly and Sealing Inspection: All components are precisely assembled. After installing the seals, sealing performance testing is conducted to simulate low- and medium-pressure conditions and identify potential leaks. The tightness of threaded connections is also checked to ensure that the assembled product meets usage standards.7. Finished Product Inspection and Packaging: Products that pass assembly and inspection undergo final dimensional verification and visual inspection. Unqualified products are discarded. Qualified products are packaged according to specifications, labeled with product model, material, thread specifications, etc., and properly protected for easy storage and transportation.
