UNS S20910 XM-19 Stainless Steel Introduction
UNS S20910 XM-19 stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel with a blend of strength and corrosion resistance that is higher than stainless steel grades 316, 316/316L, 317, and 317/317L .The high strength, corrosion resistance, and low
magneticpermeability of this alloy allows it to be used as a material for medical implants.
Machinability
Stainless steel grade UNS S20910 XM-19 has machinability characteristics that are similar to other austenitic stainless
steels;however it requires slower speeds, more power, and higher rigidity due to its high work hardening rate. It is recommended that coated carbide tooling be used.
Forming
Stainless steel grade UNS S20910 XM-19 can be formed using the same methods applied for other austenitic stainless steels. More power for forming and forging is needed for this alloy. Forging can be done at 1177-1204°C (2150-2200°F).
Welding
Welding of stainless steel grade UNS S20910 XM-19 can be performed using traditional joining processes. Recommended filler metal should be UNS S20910 XM-19 (AWS E/ER209).
Caution should be taken while using autogenous, high power density joining processes such as EB or laser welding, due to low FN potential and severe outgassing possibility.
Heat Treatment
Final annealing process performed for several of the applications, is done at 1065°C (1950°F), which is followed by water
quenching. In case this material is used in a strongly corrosive environment, annealing should be done at 1121°C (2050°F). This alloy cannot be hardened by heat treatment.

1. Raw Material Selection and Pre-treatment: High-quality raw materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and duplex steel conforming to ASME B16.11 and GB/T 14383 standards are selected. Material testing and dimensional inspection are performed first, and oxide scale, oil stains, and impurities are removed from the surface of the raw materials to ensure they are free of cracks, porosity, and other defects, laying the foundation for subsequent processing.2. Forging and Shaping: Using precision die forging technology, the pre-treated raw materials are heated to the specified temperature and forged into core components such as the connector body, nut, and connector body using forging equipment. This ensures the dimensional accuracy and mechanical properties of each component, resulting in a dense structure and improved overall pressure resistance.3. Precision Machining: The forged components undergo precision machining such as turning, milling, and drilling. Special attention is paid to machining key areas such as the socket joint, sealing surface, and threads. Strict control is maintained over interface dimensions and sealing surface finish to ensure tight socket welding, smooth threaded connections, and compliance with assembly requirements.4. Welding Process: Professional welding is performed on the socket joint using socket welding technology to ensure a full weld, free of slag inclusions and porosity. After welding, weld flaw detection is performed to identify and eliminate welding defects, ensuring weld strength and sealing performance and preventing leakage problems during subsequent use.5. Surface Treatment: Based on customer requirements and operating conditions, the finished product undergoes surface treatments such as galvanizing, chrome plating, and pickling passivation. This enhances the product's corrosion resistance and rust prevention, extends its service life, and improves its appearance, adapting to the needs of different industrial environments.6. Sealing and Pressure Testing: After assembly of all components, sealing performance and pressure resistance tests are conducted to simulate actual working pressure, eliminating potential leakage risks in sealing surfaces and welds. This ensures the product achieves zero leakage under high pressure and high temperature conditions, meeting industry standards.7. Finished Product Inspection and Packaging: Conduct final dimensional verification and visual inspection on qualified products, and reject unqualified products; qualified products are packaged according to specifications, labeled with product model, material, pressure rating and other information, and protective measures are taken to facilitate storage, transportation and subsequent use.
