Grade 904L stainless steel is a non-stabilized austenitic stainless steel with low carbon content. This high alloy stainless steel is added with copper to improve its resistance to strong reducing acids, such as sulphuric acid. The steel is also resistant to stress corrosion cracking and crevice corrosion. Grade 904L is non-magnetic, and offers excellent formability, toughness and weldability. Grade 904L contains high amounts of expensive ingredients, such as molybdenum and nickel.

Product processing

Key steps include raw material preparation, reducing/forming, bevelling, and heat treatment to ensure smooth fluid flow, high pressure resistance, and compliance with standards like ASME B16.9.
Production Steps
1. Raw Material Inspection: Pipe or plate materials are checked for quality, often involving ASTM standards.
2. Cutting: Raw pipes or plates are cut to required sizes.
3. Forming/Reducing: The reduction from a larger to smaller diameter is achieved using specialized machinery.
4. Welding: For plate-formed reducers, a longitudinal weld seam is added.
5. Heat Treatment: This step reduces internal stress and improves material properties.
6. Bevelling (Welding Edge Finishing): Ends are machined to a bevel for easy butt welding on site.
