Carbon Steel A105 introduction
ASTM A105 (UNS K03504) is carbon steel for piping forgings. It works within temperature from -29℃ to 425℃ with excellent forgeability and weldability. Commonly manufactured into Threadolet, Sockolet, hex bushing and other socket & threaded fittings.Normalized A105N is available. Widely used in steam, oil and natural gas pipeline projects, complying with ASME B16.11, MSS SP-97standards.
Butt Welding Elbow Introduction
An elbow is a common pipe fitting used in plumbing installations to connect pipes at a bend and change the direction of the pipeline.A type of pipe fitting commonly used in piping installation to connect two pipes—whether of the same or different diameters—allowing the pipeline to make a turn at a specific angle.This utility model relates to the technical field of hydronic piping, and more particularly to a bending mechanism for hydronic pipes. This mechanism is capable of cooling hydronic pipes after they have been heated and bent, thereby accelerating the setting process, reducing cooling time, enhancing construction efficiency, and improving practicality. The mechanism comprises a base, multiple support legs, a heating device, and a bending device. The bending device includes an electric push rod, a mounting sleeve, a bending head, two pivot shafts, and two limiting guide wheels; the support legs are mounted at the bottom of the base to provide support, the heating device is mounted at the top of the base to heat the hydronic pipes, and the bending device is mounted at the front section of the top of the base. The mechanism further includes a cooling device and an adjustment device; the cooling device is mounted at the bottom of the base to cool the bent hydronic pipes, and the adjustment device is mounted at the top of the base to adjust the bending position of the hydronic pipes.

1.Preliminary Preparation and Material Cutting Specification Confirmation: Determine the elbow specifications (diameter, angle,and radius of curvature) based on engineering drawings; for long-radius elbows, the radius of curvature R = 1.5D (where D is the pipe's outer diameter), and for short-radius elbows, R = D. Pipe Material Calculation: Calculate the required pipe blank dimensions using theoretical formulas, maintaining an expansion rate of 33%–35% (to prevent distortion during the pushing process). Formula: Pipe blank outer diameter = Finished elbow outer diameter × (1 + expansion rate). Cutting: Cut the steel pipe into straight sections of the required length. The end faces must be perpendicular to the axis, with a tolerance of ≤0.5 mm, to ensure uniform force distribution during the subsequent pushing process.
2.Heating and Push-Forming Heating Process: Medium-frequency induction heating or flame heating is employed to heat the pipe blank to 800–1200°C (approximately 1000°C for carbon steel and 1100°C for stainless steel), ensuring the metal reaches the temperature required for plastic deformation. Push-Forming: The heated pipe blank is placed over a mandrel (with a diameter matching the elbow's inner diameter to control compression at the inner arc) and inserted into a hot-pushing die; a hydraulic pusher then drives the blank through the die to complete the bending and forming process. This operation requires synchronized control of the pushing speed (to ensure wall thinning does not exceed 10%) and the heating temperature (to prevent overheating/burning).
3.Shaping and Heat Treatment Shaping/Correction: After the push-forming process, the outer diameter at the leading end of the elbow is larger than at the trailing end; shaping is required using a dual-semicircular die set (comprising upper and lower molds) to ensure a uniform outer diameter and maintain tolerances within ±0.5 mm. Heat Treatment: Carbon Steel/Alloy Steel: Normalizing and tempering are required to relieve stresses induced by push-forming, refine the metal microstructure, and prevent cold cracking. Stainless Steel: Solution treatment (water quenching at 1050–1150°C) is employed to restore corrosion resistance and prevent intergranular corrosion.
4.Quality Inspection and Finished Product Warehousing Dimensional Inspection: Measurement of outer diameter, wall thickness, angle, and radius of curvature; wall thickness deviation must be ≤10% (in compliance with GB12459/ASME B16.9 standards).Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Ultrasonic Testing (UT) or Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) performed on critical areas (such as weld seams and zones deformed during the pushing process) to ensure the absence of cracks or slag inclusion defects. Pressure Testing: Hydrostatic testing conducted at 1.5 times the design pressure; acceptance requires maintaining the pressure for 30 minutes without leakage or permanent deformation. Marking and Warehousing: Marking of material grade, specifications, production date, and inspection status; categorized storage.
