Socket weld couplings are manufactured primarily through hot forging, heat treatment, and precision CNC machining of solid steel bars or ingots according to standards like ASME B16.11 Standards.1.Manufacturing & Production ProcessRaw Material Preparation:
High-quality carbon steel, stainless steel, or alloy steel round bars/billets are inspected and cut into precise lengths based on the target coupling size and weight.2.Hot Forging / Die Forging:
The cut pieces are heated to high temperatures and pressed into shape using drop-forging dies. Forging aligns the grain structure of the metal, granting the coupling superior tensile strength and fatigue resistance compared to cast alternatives.3.Heat Treatment:
Forged blanks undergo heat treatments (such as annealing, normalizing, or quenching and tempering) to relieve internal stresses and optimize mechanical properties.4.CNC Machining & Boring:
The cooled, forged blanks are loaded into CNC lathes and milling machines to cut the outer dimensions, face the ends, and bore the internal recessed sockets and dimensions specified by ASME B16.11 Dimensions. 5.Surface Treatment & Finishing:
Couplings are cleaned, deburred, and treated with anti-rust oil, passivation (for stainless steel), or protective coatings.
6.Quality Control & Testing:
Dimensions, wall thickness, and thread/socket tolerances are verified, followed by non-destructive testing (such as magnetic particle or liquid penetrant inspection) to ensure defect-free production
