Butt Welding Reducer Introduction
Classification (Two Main Types)
1. Concentric Reducer (CONC)
The centers of both ends lie on the same centerline with a symmetrical tapered shape. Application: Vertical pipelines; positions requiring good alignment and smooth medium transition.
2. Eccentric Reducer (ECC)
One generatrix is flat, and the centerlines of the two ends are offset. Application: Horizontal pipelines. Liquid lines usually use flat on bottom to avoid air locking; gas lines usually use flat on top to prevent liquid accumulation. Eccentric reducers are preferred at pump inlets to avoid cavitation.
Oil & gas, chemical, power plant, boiler, water supply & drainage, LNG, pharmaceutical, sewage treatment and other pressure piping systems; reducing sections for flow meters, valves and pump nozzles.

3. Heating: Heat the deformation zone by induction heater or furnace, strictly control forming temperature to avoid overheating.Carbon steel & alloy steel are normally hot formed; some stainless steel can be cold formed.
4. Press Forming (Key Process): Reducing pressing (most common), expanding pressing or combined reducing-expanding pressing. The blank is axially compressed by hydraulic press inside dies. Concentric / eccentric dies are used correspondingly. Multiple forming passes if needed.
5. Trimming & Sizing: Cut off excess material at both ends. Reheat and re-size to correct roundness, generatrix and eccentricity.
6. Heat Treatment :Normalizing / annealing for carbon steel, solution treatment for stainless steel, tempering for alloy steel, to relieve residual forming stress and restore mechanical properties.
7. Bevel Machining :Machine welding bevel and root face on both ends by lathe or beveling machine, complying with ASME B16.9 or GB/T 12459.
8. Surface Treatment: Shot blasting / sand blasting to remove scale; pickling & passivation for stainless steel; anti-rust
coating as required.
9. Final Inspection :Visual check, dimensional inspection (OD, wall thickness, length, eccentricity, roundness). NDT (UT/RT), hardness or hydrostatic test upon order requirement.
10. Marking :Stamping or spray marking: material grade, size, SCH, heat number, standard, manufacturer logo and batch number for traceability.
11. Packing & Warehousing :Protective packing, storage and delivery with MTC documents.
