6061 aluminum alloy billets are delivered with original mill test certificates. The QC team verifies the heat number, chemical composition and mechanical property data in accordance with ASTM B221 standards. Random sampling is taken for spectral analysis to check the content of magnesium and silicon, the key alloying elements of 6061. Ultrasonic inspection is implemented to detect internal shrinkage cavities, slag inclusions and segregation defects. Visual inspection checks surface cracks, pits and oxidation spots. Qualified billets are marked with batch codes and transferred to production; unqualified billets are isolated and returned.
2.Heating, Hot Piercing and Hot Extrusion:
The qualified solid aluminum billet is put into a temperature-controlled heating furnace and heated evenly to the specified extrusion temperature with accurate holding time, avoiding overburning and uneven grain growth. The heated billet is pierced on a rotary piercing machine to form a hollow tube shell. Then the tube shell is sent to the extrusion press for hot extrusion. Operators strictly control extrusion speed, die temperature and lubrication condition, to guarantee the extruded mother tube blank features uniform wall thickness, good roundness and consistent metallographic grain structure.
3.Cleaning, Lubrication and Multi-pass Cold Drawing:
Hot extruded tube blanks are cleaned to remove surface oil stains and oxide films, followed by drying treatment. Special drawing lubricant is evenly coated on the inner and outer surfaces of the tube blank. The tube blank undergoes multi-pass cold drawing, and straightening process is arranged after each drawing pass to eliminate bending and twisting deformation. Each drawing pass gradually reduces the outer diameter, inner diameter and wall thickness, so that the dimensions approach the required tolerance range, and the surface smoothness and dimensional accuracy are improved.
4.Solution Heat Treatment and Aging:
Cold-drawn 6061 aluminum pipes are loaded into a heat treatment furnace for solution treatment first. The pipes are heated to the solution temperature and kept for a certain period, then rapidly quenched to retain the supersaturated solid solution. After quenching, artificial aging treatment is carried out under controlled temperature. This complete T6 heat treatment process can significantly improve the tensile strength, hardness and mechanical performance of 6061 aluminum alloy. All temperature and time parameters of each batch are recorded for process traceability.
5.Cutting, Finishing, Anodizing and Multi-item Inspection:
Heat-treated aluminum pipes are cut to required straight lengths by precision cutting equipment. Both pipe ends are deburred and chamfered to remove sharp edges. The pipes go through a full pre-treatment cleaning process including degreasing, alkaline etching, neutralization and rinsing before anodizing. Controlled anodic oxidation is performed to form a dense, hard, corrosion-resistant alumina film on the pipe surface; film thickness can be adjusted as requested. After anodizing, sealing treatment is completed. Comprehensive inspection is carried out: dimensional detection of outer diameter, inner diameter, wall thickness and straightness; visual inspection for scratches, dents and uneven oxide film. Hardness test, tensile test and oxide thickness test can be provided upon customer request. Non-conforming pipes are marked and separated for rework or scrapping.
6.Marking, Packaging and Shipment:
All qualified anodized straight aluminum pipes are marked with alloy grade, specification, heat number and executive standard. Protective plastic end caps are installed on both ends to prevent collision damage. Soft separating pads are placed between bundled pipes to avoid scratch marks on the anodized layer. Moisture-proof film wrapping and export wooden cases are used for packaging to prevent deformation and contamination during transportation. Corresponding MTR documents including chemical analysis, mechanical test, anodizing film thickness and dimensional inspection records are prepared and shipped together for full quality traceability.
