13-8MO Introduction

Stainless steel grade 13-8 Mo has a high toughness and excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking. It has been designed to handle applications where high strength, corrosion resistance, toughness, and stress resistance are essential. This is a martensitic alloy.

13-8MO Chemical Composition

Grade 13-8 stainless steel is a high-strength, precipitation-hardening martensitic alloy known for superior toughness, corrosion resistance, and excellent transverse properties. It typically contains 12.25-13.25% Chromium, 7.5-8.5% Nickel, and 2.0-2.5% Molybdenum, often used in aerospace, nuclear, and petrochemical applications.

Product processing

Weld neck flange manufacturing involves forging or rolling raw steel (carbon, stainless, alloy) into shape, followed by precision heat treatment and CNC machining to meet ASME/ANSI standards. Key processes include heating billets, forging/pressing to form the hub, annealing for microstructure improvement, and final machining of the sealing face, taper, and bolt holes.

Key Production Steps
* Raw Material Inspection & Cutting: Certified raw materials (round bars or steel plates) are selected and cut to appropriate sizes based on the final flange dimensions.
* Heating: The material is heated in a furnace to a specific forging temperature (usually between 1040 °C and 1120 °C).
* Forging/Forming:

* Die Forging: A hydraulic press or hammering machine shapes the heated billet into a rough flange shape.
* Rolling: Large flanges are created by rolling steel slabs into circular rings.

* Heat Treatment: To relieve internal stress and improve material strength, flanges undergo heat treatments such as annealing,normalizing, or quenching and tempering.
* Machining (CNC):

* Turning: Machining the neck and outer diameter.
* Facing: Creating the required sealing surface (e.g., raised face, flat face).
* Boring: Machining the tapered neck to match the pipe's internal diameter.
* Drilling: Drilling bolt holes to precise ANSI/ASME tolerances.
* Inspection & Testing:

* Dimensional Inspection: Verifying size against standard drawings (e.g., ASME B16.5).
* Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Ultrasonic testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), or Dye Penetrant testing (PT) to ensure no internal or surface defects.

* Surface Treatment & Packing: Cleaning, descaling, and applying anti-rust oil or coating. Finally, the flanges are packed for shipping, often with documentation (MTR/Test Reports).
