Product processing
Brass wire processing involves melting copper and zinc, casting into billets, hot/cold working, annealing for ductility, and drawing through dies to final diameter. Key steps include extrusion, pickling, drawing, and surface coating (if required), ensuring high precision for industries like electronics (EDM), fasteners, and decorative arts
Key Stages of Brass Wire Production
* Melting & Casting: Copper is melted (often with zinc to form the alloy) in an electric induction furnace. The molten metal is cast into solid billets or cakes using continuous or semi-continuous casting.
* Hot/Cold Working: Cast billets are heated and hot-rolled or extruded to reduce thickness.
* Drawing & Reduction: The material is pulled through a series of successively smaller drawing dies to achieve the desired wire gauge.
* Annealing & Cleaning: To prevent hardening during drawing, the brass is heat-treated (annealed) and the surface is cleaned with sulfuric acid to remove oxide layers.
* Final Finishing & Coating: For specific applications, such as EDM (Electric Discharge Machining) or tire cords, the wire is coated with specialized materials or polished for precision.
