ASTM A182 F51 equates to UNS S31803. This was the original caption for a 22% Cr duplex stainless steel. However, as explained in an earlier article, manufacturers optimised the composition towards the top end of the limits to improve pitting corrosion resistance. This grade, with a tighter specification, is captioned as F60, equating to UNS S32205. Consequently, S32205 can be dual-certified as S31803, but not vice-versa. It accounts for around 80% of overall duplex stainless steel production. Langley Alloys stocks Alloy 2205+, which is Alleima’s proprietary product that provides ‘enhanced machinability as standard’. Our stock range goes from ½” up to 450mm diameter solid bars, plus hollow bars and plates too.
Stainless steel pipes are a type of steel pipe that possesses the ability to resist corrosion from weak corrosive media such as air, water, and steam, as well as chemical corrosive media like acids, alkalis, and salts. Classification:According to cross-sectional shapes: there are round pipes and special-shaped pipes. Round pipes are the most common type and are widely used in various fluid transportation and mechanical structural components; special-shaped pipes include rectangular pipes, rhombic pipes, elliptical pipes, etc., which are suitable for various structural components, tools and mechanical parts.According to uses: they can be classified as oil well pipes, pipeline pipes, boiler pipes, mechanical structure pipes, gas cylinder pipes, chemical pipes, etc.Material characteristics:Corrosion resistance: Alloy elements such as chromium, nickel, and molybdenum can form a dense passivation film on the surface of steel pipes, effectively preventing the erosion of oxygen and other corrosive substances.High strength and toughness: While maintaining high corrosion resistance, they possess high strength and good toughness, capable of withstanding large pressure or mechanical impacts.Good processability: They have good plasticity and weldability, making it easy to process into various shapes and sizes, meeting the diverse needs of different fields for pipe materials. Application fieldsConstruction field: Used for handrails, railings, doors, windows, curtain walls, etc., as well as as pipeline materials for water supply and heating systems.Petrochemical industry: Due to its excellent corrosion resistance and high strength, it becomes an ideal choice for transporting various corrosive media.Food and medicine: Stainless steel pipes for food and medicine have strict requirements for the content of harmful elements. The surface of the inner and outer layers is highly smooth, and there is little medium adhesion, which is conducive to corrosion resistance and flushing. It is widely used in beverage production lines, pharmaceutical pipeline systems, etc.Environmental protection and water treatment: In water treatment and environmental protection projects, due to its acid and alkali resistance and corrosion resistance characteristics, it is used in sewage treatment, seawater desalination and other systems.
