F55 Introduction
Stainless steel grade F55 has excellent corrosion resistance to a wide range of areas, especially resistance to pitting and
crevice corrosion in seawater and other chloride containing environments, with critical pitting temperature that is more than 50°C(122°F). This material is known to also have high strength and extended lifecycle. It is 10% lighter than grade 316 steel, ideal for sub-zero service, and more cost effective than nickel alloys. They are primarily used to connect two pipes of the same nominal diameter, allowing for angled bends in the pipeline to meet the needs of branching and changing fluid flow direction.

1. Raw Material PreparationSelect high-quality carbon steel, stainless steel (e.g., 304, 316L), or alloy steel pipes as raw materials. Conduct strict inspections for chemical composition, mechanical properties, and surface defects (no cracks, corrosion, or inclusions) to meet ASTM, ASME, or DIN standards.
2. Cutting & BlankingUse CNC plasma cutting, flame cutting, or band saw cutting to cut raw pipes into required lengths based on tee specifications (diameter, wall thickness). Ensure precise dimension control and flat, burr-free cutting surfaces.
3. Blank Forming- For equal-diameter tees: Press or forge the pipe blank to form the Y-shaped branch structure using hydraulic presses or mechanical forging equipment.- For reducing tees: Adopt hot forming (heating to 900-1100℃) to shape the branch with different diameter, ensuring uniform wall thickness distribution at the junction. 4. Heat TreatmentPerform annealing, normalizing, or quenching-tempering based on material type:- Relieve internal stresses from forming;- Improve material toughness and weldability;- Meet required hardness and mechanical performance indicators. 5. MachiningUse CNC lathes and milling machines to precision-machine the tee’s end faces, inner/outer diameters, and welding bevels. Ensure bevel angles (e.g., 37.5°) and dimensional tolerances comply with welding and installation requirements.
6. Welding (If Applicable)For split-type tees, weld the branch pipe to the main pipe using submerged arc welding, TIG welding, or MIG welding. Control welding parameters (current, voltage, speed) to ensure full penetration, no weld porosity, slag inclusion, or cracks. Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) such as radiography (RT) or ultrasonic testing (UT) for critical applications.
7. Surface Treatment- Remove welding slag, spatter, and burrs via grinding and polishing;- Perform pickling and passivation (for stainless steel) to form a corrosion-resistant oxide film;- Optionally apply painting, galvanizing, or other anti-corrosion coatings based on customer requirements. 8. Inspection & Quality Control- Dimensional inspection: Verify outer diameter, wall thickness, branch angle (typically 45° or 60°), and length with calipers, micrometers, and angle gauges;- Visual inspection: Check surface quality and weld appearance;- Pressure testing: Conduct hydrostatic or pneumatic tests to ensure no leakage (test pressure 1.5 times the working pressure);- Material verification: Recheck chemical composition and mechanical properties if necessary. 9. Marking & PackagingMark the tee with material grade, size (e.g., DN50-DN50-DN40), standard, heat number, and manufacturer’s logo. Package with anti-rust oil, plastic film, and wooden crates to prevent damage during transportation.
