Monel 400 Introduction
Monel 400 alloy (UNS N04400/MCu-28-1.5-1.8/Ni68Cu28Fe) is a nickel-based alloy, primarily composed of nickel-copper alloy, with a melting point of 1300-1350°C. It exhibits good corrosion resistance in corrosive media such as seawater, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid. This alloy demonstrates stable mechanical properties and is suitable for working environments ranging from low to high temperatures. Welding can be performed using TIG, MIG, and manual arc welding, matched with Monel body material or EniCu-7 welding consumables. This alloy is mainly used in the manufacture of heat exchange equipment, chemical pipelines, reaction vessels, and other devices, conforming to standards including ASTM B 164 (bars) and ASTM B 127 (plates). During machining,shrinkage allowance must be allowed to ensure dimensional accuracy. 1. Raw Material Preparation & Inspection Select qualified round steel or seamless steel pipe that meets the design specifications, and conduct chemical composition analysis and mechanical property testing to ensure compliance with industry standards.
2. Blank Cutting Use cutting equipment such as band saws or plasma cutting machines to cut the raw materials into blanks of specified dimensions, and remove burrs and oxide layers at the cutting ports.
3. Heating & Forging Heat the blank to the forging temperature in a heating furnace, then shape it into the preliminary structure of the threaded branch outlet through forging processes like upsetting and punching, ensuring the uniformity of the blank's internal structure.
4. Rough Machining Clamp the forged blank on a CNC lathe, and perform rough turning on the outer circle, inner hole, end face and step surface to remove most of the machining allowance and form a semi-finished product with approximate dimensions.
5. Thread Processing Process the internal or external threads on the specified position of the semi-finished product by means of CNC thread turning or tapping, and ensure the thread accuracy, pitch and tooth profile meet the technical requirements.
6. Finishing Machining Carry out finish turning on the key surfaces of the product, control the dimensional tolerance and surface roughness within the design range, and ensure the matching accuracy with the connected pipes.
7. Heat Treatment Perform quenching and tempering heat treatment according to the material
properties to improve the hardness, toughness and wear resistance of the threaded branch outlet, and eliminate the internal stress generated during machining.

8. Surface Treatment Conduct surface treatment processes such as pickling, passivation or electroplating to form a protective film on the surface, enhance the corrosion resistance of the product, and meet the stainless steel texture requirements.
9. Inspection & Testing Conduct comprehensive inspection including dimensional measurement, thread gauge inspection, pressure testing and non-destructive testing (NDT) to verify that all indicators of the product conform to the quality standards.
10. Marking & Packaging Mark the product model, specification, material and batch number on the qualified threaded branch outlet, then clean, anti-rust and package it for storage or delivery.
