A welded three-way fitting is a pipe fitting used in pipeline systems to connect three pipes and achieve the diversion or convergence of fluids. The manufacturing methods of welded three-way fittings mainly include two processes: hydraulic bulging and hot pressing. Hydraulic bulging is a forming process that involves the axial compensation of the metal material to bulge out the branch pipes. The specific process is to use a dedicated hydraulic press, inject liquid into the pipe blank with the same diameter as the three-way fitting, and then use the two horizontal side cylinders of the hydraulic press to synchronously align and move to compress the pipe blank. After the pipe blank is compressed, its volume decreases, and the pressure of the liquid inside the pipe blank increases as its volume decreases. When the pressure reaches the pressure required for the bulging of the stainless steel branch pipes, the metal material flows along the inner cavity of the mold under the dual action of the side cylinders and the liquid pressure inside the pipe blank, thus bulging out the branch pipes. This method is applicable to materials such as low-carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel, and is particularly suitable for the manufacturing of large-diameter and thick-walled large-diameter three-way fittings. Hot pressing forming involves flattening a pipe billet larger than the three-way diameter to the size of the three-way diameter, and then making a hole at the location where the branch pipe is stretched. [12] After the pipe billet is heated, it is placed in the forming mold, and a die for the stretched branch pipe is installed inside the pipe billet. Under the action of pressure, the pipe billet is radially compressed, and the metal flows towards the branch pipe area, thereby forming a three-way. This method completes the forming through the radial compression of the pipe billet and the stretching process at the branch pipe location, and is suitable for low-carbon steel, low-alloy steel, stainless steel, and some metal materials such as copper, aluminum, titanium, etc., which have relatively low cold work hardening tendencies. In addition, there is another common manufacturing method known as extrusion and pressing. Extrusion is carried out after cold drawing of the three-way pipe, while pressing involves shaping the three-way pipe under high pressure conditions. This method is applicable to the production of three-way pipes of different materials and has a high production efficiency.
