Grade 316L, the low carbon version of 316 and is immune from sensitization (grain boundary carbide precipitation). Thus it is extensively used in heavy gauge welded components (over about 6mm). There is commonly no appreciable price difference between 316 and 316L stainless steel.
The austenitic structure also gives these grades excellent toughness, even down to cryogenic temperatures.
Compared to chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels, 316L stainless steel offers higher creep, stress to rupture and tensile strength at elevated temperatures.

1. Raw material cuttingSelect 304 or 316 stainless steel round bars or forging blanks. Cut the materials according to the outer diameter, thickness and nominal diameter of the flange, remove burrs and flash, and ensure that the dimensions of the blanks are consistent and the end faces are flat. .
2. Forging and shapingHeat the raw material and then forge it to make the metal structure dense, thereby enhancing the strength and sealing performance of the flange. After forging, cool it down or perform heat treatment to eliminate internal stress and prevent deformation in the later stage.
3. Rough machining on the latheCarry out rough machining on the outer circle, end face, back side and inner hole step on the CNC lathe to determine the overall shape of the flange, reserve the allowance for fine machining, and ensure stable clamping and uniform processing benchmark.
4. Fine machining and sealing surface processingFine machine the flange end face and sealing surface (raised surface / full plane) to ensure the flatness and smoothness; process the bolt hole positioning circle according to the standard size to ensure the accuracy of the subsequent drilling position.
5. Internal thread processingUse the CNC lathe or thread machine to process the pipe thread at the center hole of the flange, strictly control the thread accuracy, tooth shape and depth, to ensure the appropriate tightness and reliable sealing of the pipe thread when screwed together.
6. Drilling and deburringDrill the bolt through holes at the standard evenly distributed positions, chamfer and deburr to avoid sharp edges scratching the gasket, ensuring smooth assembly of the bolts.
7.Surface treatment and inspectionPerform acid washing and passivation treatment to remove oil stains and oxide layer, enhancing corrosion resistance. Subsequently, inspect the dimensions, thread accuracy, appearance of the sealing surface, conduct water pressure test and air tightness inspection, and if qualified, mark the material, specification, and pressure grade, package and store.
