Stainless steel 304 introduction
Stainless steel is an alloy steel based on iron and chromium, supplemented with alloying elements such as nickel, molybdenum, and manganese. The core principle is that chromium in the steel combines with oxygen to form a dense, stable chromium oxide passivation film on the material surface, isolating it from air and moisture and preventing the steel from rusting and corroding.304 stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel and is the most widely used general-purpose stainless steel material.
Socket Cap Screw Introduction
Socket cap screw (Allen head cap screw) is a high-strength internal hex fastener per DIN912 standard. Made of 304/316 stainless steel or high-grade carbon steel, it features full thread, cylindrical cup head and hex socket drive. 1.Raw Material Cutting (Blanking)：Raw material: Carbon steel round bar, 304/316 stainless steel solid round bar.
Process: Use automatic bar cutting machine to cut long steel rods into fixed-length blanks according to screw specification(diameter × total length).Purpose: Obtain uniform cylindrical semi-finished workpieces for the next forging step.

2. Cold Heading / Cold Forging (Head Forming)：Core key process for cup head and inner hex socket: Feed steel blank into multi-station cold heading machine.Extrude one end to form the cylindrical cap head with outer knurling.Punch the internal hexagonal recess in the center of the head in one molding.Advantage: Cold forging improves metal density and tensile strength, no material loss, high production efficiency.Standard followed: DIN912 / ISO4762 dimensional tolerance.
3. Thread Rolling：Deburr the workpiece first to remove sharp edges.Transfer to thread rolling machine, two rolling dies squeeze the rod body to extrude complete external threads.Features: Rolled thread has better fatigue resistance and locking force than cut thread, full thread design for long socket cap screws as shown in the picture.
4. Heat Treatment (Only for High-Strength Carbon Steel Screws):For Grade 8.8, 10.9, 12.9 alloy carbon steel socket cap screws:Quenching + Tempering process to increase hardness, tensile strength and wear resistance.Stainless steel screws (304/316) skip heat treatment to avoid material performance deterioration.
5. Surface Finishing & Anti-Corrosion Treatment：Different treatments based on material and application:Carbon steel: Zinc plating (blue white zinc / yellow zinc), black oxide, nickel plating to prevent rust and oxidation.Stainless steel: Passivation treatment, remove surface impurities, enhance anti-corrosion ability, keep silver metallic luster.
6. Quality Inspection & Sorting:Dimensional testing: Use calipers, thread gauges, plug gauges to check head diameter, thread pitch, hex socket depth, overall length.Mechanical performance test: Tensile test, hardness test, torque test for high-strength grades.Automatic optical sorting machine rejects defective products: cracked heads, incomplete threads, deformed inner hex holes.
