ASME B16.9 is a manufacturing standard for forged steel butt-welding fittings formulated by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). It provides unified and standardized technical requirements for the design, production, inspection and other procedures of butt-welding fittings. The product scope covered by ASME B16.9 includes various sizes of butt-weld tees, elbows, reducers, caps and other butt-welding fittings. The dimensional range of these fittings is from 1/2 inch (approx. 12.7 mm) to 48 inches (approx. 1219.2 mm).
The manufacturing process of ASME B16.9 butt-weld tees consists of key stages including raw material inspection, forming, heat treatment, machining and testing. For hydroforming: a pipe blank with the same diameter as the tee run pipe is placed in a hydroforming die. Ultra-high pressure liquid is injected into the pipe blank, while axial thrust is applied at both ends of the blank for material feeding. Under the combined action of liquid pressure and axial force, the metal of the blank flows toward the branch cavity of the die to form a tee rough blank.
