We receive A36 carbon steel billets, and conduct incoming material verification. Check the material heat number, chemical composition and mechanical properties by spectrometer and tensile test. Inspect the billet surface for cracks, folds, inclusions and other defects. Confirm compliance with ASTM A36 standard. Non-conforming raw materials are segregated and rejected.
2.Hot Forging Forming:
Heat the qualified steel billet to the specified forging temperature range in the heating furnace. Transfer the heated blank to the forging press, forge step by step to form the weld neck flange rough shape, including the hub, tapered neck and flange plate. Control forging pressure and forming speed to avoid internal laminations or unfilled corners. After forging, cool the workpiece under controlled conditions.
3.Normalization Heat Treatment:
Load forged blanks into the heat treatment furnace for normalization. Uniform the internal grain structure, eliminate forging stress, improve material toughness and machinability. Record furnace temperature, holding time and cooling curve for traceability.
4.CNC Machining:
Perform rough turning and finish turning on CNC lathes to machine the sealing face, hub outer diameter, inner bore and taper neck. Use the drilling machine to process bolt holes according to the drawing tolerance requirements. Strictly control dimensions, flange thickness, bolt circle diameter and surface flatness. Remove sharp burrs after machining.
5.Black Oxide Surface Treatment & Inspection:
Carry out black oxide (blackening) treatment on the machined flange. Clean oil and debris first, then complete alkaline oxidation to form a uniform black protective film on the steel surface for mild rust resistance. Conduct full inspection: dimension retest, visual check for surface defects, sealing surface flatness inspection and hardness spot check. Mark heat number, material grade, size and pressure class on qualified flanges.
6.Cleaning, Packaging & Shipment:
Clean the flange thoroughly to remove residual treatment liquid and dust. Protect the sealing surface with plastic protective cover. Wrap with anti-rust paper and place into wooden cases with cushioning materials to prevent scratching and collision. Attach material test report and shipping label before delivery.
