1.Structural Characteristics
Threaded hex head plug is a pipe closure fitting with external thread and hexagonal head. The hexagon head is designed for wrench clamping, enabling easy screwing in and out. It seals pipe or equipment threaded ports without welding, featuring a compact and solid structure.
2.Installation Features
Installation is convenient and efficient. Workers use standard hex wrench to screw the plug into matching internal threaded openings. No welding operation is needed. It supports repeated disassembly for system inspection, maintenance and medium sampling.
3.Application Scope
It is widely used to seal spare ports on pipelines, valves, pressure vessels and hydraulic equipment. Applicable for water, oil, gas and general chemical media. It fits low and medium pressure working conditions for both temporary and permanent sealing.
4.Sealing Performance & Limitations
Sealing is achieved by thread matching, together with PTFE tape or thread sealant as auxiliary. It performs reliably under stable pressure. Not suitable for scenarios with severe vibration, drastic pressure change or strong corrosive media, which may cause thread looseness and leakage.
5.Standards & Material Options
Common standard is ASME B16.11. Available materials include carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy steel. Thread types contain NPT, BSPT and BSPP. Optional surface treatments such as blackening, galvanizing or anti-rust oil can be applied for rust protection.

1.Raw Material Inspection and Cutting
Inspect solid bar raw material to verify chemical composition and mechanical properties in line with relevant standards. Check the surface for cracks, pits and other defects. Cut bars into blanks with proper machining allowance per drawing requirements.
2.Heading / Hot Forging Forming
Heat the blank to specified forming temperature. Upset one end to shape the hexagonal head and rough workpiece profile. Control heating temperature and forming pressure strictly to avoid internal defects and incomplete hexagon forming.
3.Heat Treatment
Implement normalizing or tempering after forming. Remove residual forming stress, refine grain structure and adjust hardness. Prevent workpiece deformation in subsequent machining and improve overall mechanical performance.
4.Precision Machining
Adopt CNC turning to machine outer cylinder and external threads. Machine the hex head to meet dimensional and flatness tolerance. Deburr sharp edges to ensure all dimensions comply with drawing specifications.
5.Surface Treatment
Clear machining chips and burrs. Perform shot blasting to eliminate oxide scales. Apply surface finishing including blackening, galvanizing or anti-rust oil coating according to customer requirements for corrosion protection.
6.Final Inspection and Marking
Carry out thread gauge test, dimensional measurement and visual inspection. Check thread fit and surface quality. Mark material grade, heat number and standard on qualified products, then pack for delivery.
