Select ASTM A182 F316 stainless steel round billets as raw material. Check the material heat number, mill test certificate, chemical composition and mechanical property data. Conduct on-site spectrum testing to confirm alloy content meets 316 standard, visually inspect the billet surface for cracks, pores, scabs and folding defects. Unqualified blanks will be isolated and returned; only qualified raw materials can enter the forging process.
2.Hot Forging Forming:
Load the qualified billet into the heating furnace, heat evenly to the target forging temperature range, keep sufficient holding time for uniform internal temperature. Transfer the heated billet quickly to the forging press for closed die forging to form the slip-on flange rough blank. Control forging pressure and forming stroke to avoid under-filling or over-burning. After forming, trim flash and rough burrs by trimming die, then cool the forging blank in a controlled way to prevent rapid cooling cracking.
3.Heat Treatment:
Carry out solution annealing for forged flange blanks. Heat the forgings to the solution temperature and hold for a specified time to dissolve carbide precipitates into the austenite matrix. Implement rapid air cooling to obtain a uniform austenitic microstructure, eliminate residual forging stress, recover the excellent corrosion resistance and toughness of 316 stainless steel. Randomly sample workpieces for hardness inspection after cooling.
4.CNC Precision Machining:
Fix the annealed forging blank on CNC lathe and machining center. Turn the inner bore, outer circle, flange thickness and raised face sealing surface strictly following ASME B16.5 dimension tolerance. Control the roughness and flatness of the sealing face to guarantee sealing performance. Then drill and ream bolt holes, ensure bolt hole pitch circle diameter and position tolerance. Deburr all edges after machining.
5.Surface Treatment & Cleaning:
Complete degreasing first to remove cutting fluid, oil stains and metal chips. Then carry out pickling and passivation treatment to eliminate surface oxide scale and heat tint, forming a stable chromium-rich passive film on the surface to improve anti-corrosion performance. After rinsing and drying, perform full visual inspection to check for machining scratches, pitting and abnormal surface defects.
6.Final Inspection & Packaging:
Carry out full dimensional verification, sealing surface inspection, hardness recheck and marking operation. Mark material grade, pressure class, specification, heat number and standard on the flange body by electrochemical marking. Wrap qualified flanges with anti-rust film, place into waterproof packaging. Paste product labels and shipping marks, separate defective products for rework or scrapping before warehouse storage.
