Socket-welded 90° and 45° elbows are core forged high-pressure pipe fittings in industrial piping systems. Specifically designed for directional changes in small-diameter, high-pressure pipelines, they achieve 90°/45° pipe turns through a socket-welded structure. Widely used in petrochemical, power, food machinery, and shipbuilding industries where extremely high sealing and pressure resistance are required.
The products are manufactured using a one-piece forging process with an integrated socket structure. Pipes can be directly inserted and welded after positioning. Compared to butt-welded elbows, installation is more convenient, and compared to threaded connections, sealing performance is superior, making them the preferred solution for turning small-diameter, high-pressure pipelines.
UNS S20910 XM-19 stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel with a blend of strength and corrosion resistance that is
higher than stainless steel grades 316, 316/316L, 317, and 317/317L .
Machinability
Stainless steel grade UNS S20910 XM-19 has machinability characteristics that are similar to other austenitic stainless
steels;however it requires slower speeds, more power, and higher rigidity due to its high work hardening rate. It is recommended that coated carbide tooling be used.
Forming
Stainless steel grade UNS S20910 XM-19 can be formed using the same methods applied for other austenitic stainless steels. More power for forming and forging is needed for this alloy. Forging can be done at 1177-1204°C (2150-2200°F).
Welding
Welding of stainless steel grade UNS S20910 XM-19 can be performed using traditional joining processes. Recommended filler metal should be UNS S20910 XM-19 (AWS E/ER209).
Caution should be taken while using autogenous, high power density joining processes such as EB or laser welding, due to low FN potential and severe outgassing possibility.
Heat Treatment
Final annealing process performed for several of the applications, is done at 1065°C (1950°F), which is followed by water quenching. In case this material is used in a strongly corrosive environment, annealing should be done at 1121°C (2050°F). This alloy cannot be hardened by heat treatment.

1. Raw material inspection upon arrival: Specialized stainless steel round bars/forging billets undergo spectral analysis to ensure they are free of cracks and impurities before being put into production.
2. Precise sawing and blanking: Billets are cut according to elbow specifications and pressure standards, removing burrs and leaving standard machining allowances.
3. High-temperature softening: Billets are heated at a constant temperature in a specialized furnace to prevent overheating and achieve optimal plastic forging conditions.
4. Die pressure forging: Specialized 90° and 45° shaping dies are used for integral forging, resulting in high-density elbow billets with sufficient pressure resistance.
5. Heat treatment for stress relief: After forging, uniform annealing and solution tempering treatments are performed to eliminate internal forging stress and prevent later cracking and deformation.
6. CNC precision machining: The socket ends, sealing steps, and mating faces are precision machined to ensure standard angles and accurate dimensions, adapting to on-site pipeline installation.
7. Internal and external polishing and cleaning treatment; stainless steel elbows undergo pickling and passivation to remove oxide scale; overall rust and corrosion protection; surface is clean and free of oil and iron filings.
8. Full inspection and pressure testing; each unit undergoes visual inspection and dimensional re-inspection; high-pressure testing + non-destructive testing; no pores, sand holes, or hidden cracks.
9. Compliant protective packaging; end sleeves with dustproof plugs; individual film protection; categorized labeling; moisture and impact protection.
